Alphabet Scramble

This is a fun game that you can play with either a small or large group. The kids love this game and although it doesn't require a lot of movement, expect a lot of yelling :)

Materials Needed:
For this game you will need to supply each of your teams with a deck of 26 cards, each containing a letter of the alphabet. The hard plastic letters used for advertising signs (you know the ones that everyone rearranges to make funny slogans) work best, but if you don't have those readily accessible you can just print a set out.
You will also need a table for each of the teams that will hold the alphabet deck and will be used as working space for the teams.

How to Play:
Split your group into two teams and give each team.
Tell the groups how many players you will need from each team for the first round and have those players come to the front where you will have their alphabet deck on a table.
Give the players a clue that you came up with before hand and the players will then race to spell out the answer before the other team. The team that spells the word correctly first gets a point and you then move onto the next example calling a up a new set of players.

So, as an example. If the clue I came up with before hand was, "5x2", the answer would be '10'. I would then tell my kids that I needed three players for the first found and they would have to spell out 'T-E-N'.
If my clue was, "This is the place where the Russo's live", I would need 7 players to spell out 'W-A-V-E-R-L-Y'.

You can come up with whatever clues you want and if you want to make the clues and the answers harder you may want to add a second set of the alphabet to the deck.

Warning:
The only warning I have here is that the kids tend to get a little excited while racing to spell the correct answer and pages can get ripped. So if you plan to play this more than once I recommend laminating the deck.

Enjoy :)

Greased Watermelon

This game is a fun and challenging take on Ultimate Frisbee.

Supplies Needed:
2 Watermelon's
Vaseline OR kids shampoo
Pilons or something to mark goal lines

How to Play:
Set up even goal posts on either side of your playing field and then divide your group into two assigning each group to a goal. Once you have greased up the watermelon with the Vaseline or kids shampoo place it in the middle of the field while all the players line up at their end of the field. Yell 'GO' and watch them fight for the melon!

The object of the game is to get the melon past your teams goal line. The person who has the melon in their possession is allowed to take 5 steps while holding it and then must gently toss or pass of the melon to another team mate. If the other team knocks the melon to the ground, the play transfers and the melon becomes possession of the other team. In order to score the melon must be gently tossed or handed across the goal line...the players cannot run into the goal line carrying the melon.

Warnings:
You may want to pre-warn your kids that they should wear clothes that they wouldn't mind getting dirty. Neither of the suggested lubricants stain however there will always be kids complaining, "These clothes are new" or "My mom is going to be so mad". If you give them a heads up and maybe have some thrift store shirts on hand these complaints can be avoided.
Also, please make sure this game is supervised. All games come with a risk and should be played wisely.

OH! And in case you were wondering - the second watermelon is incase the kids break the first :)

Game Changer

I have been working with kids since I was practically a kid myself, and in that time I have accumulated a big stack of games. On this blog you will be able to find ice breakers, high energy games, games for small groups, and games for small children...even though most of these games are geared toward Jr. Highs and Youth. Each game listed on here has been tried and tested and kid/teen approved.
I do have two warnings though before you check out the games:
1) Some of the names of games may have been changed to protect the identity of others....well, either that or I don't know what the real name is and so I just made up my own
2) Please play all games with proper supervision. Some of them can get rowdy and injuries can happen if you're not careful.

Enjoy!
